So, how does this test work?

Once the sample is collected, the RNA is extracted. This is done by running chemicals through the sample, ensuring the complete removal of the fats, proteins, and other molecules. The test kit is subjected to specific enzymes (polymerase enzymes) at 55 degrees Celsius that copy the RNA into DNA, and these are then amplified for detection of viruses, using the PCR machine that cycles at a specific test temperature, resulting in about 35 billion copies of the viral RNA made for every strand of RNA that was present originally. This takes place at a higher temperature of 73 degrees Celsius.

Generally, the test is positive if the intensity of the light produced from the sample reaches a specific threshold.
